One Medical EMR

Case Study

About One Medical EMR...

An EMR (electronic medical records) app that navigates through patient files. Some views will be patient demographics, medical records, billing account information, and other patient records.

Role: UI/UX Designer

Software: MIRO, Figma

Documentation

I used MIRO, a visual collaboration platform, to organize my design process. I created a table to document photos, purpose, ideas, questions, pain points, and users. This table will also be a base board to collaborate thoughts, ideas, and feedbacks with project managers, engineers, and other team mates.

Interviewing

The first step in my UX process revolves around understanding the end user. I start out by crafting interview questions. This can be tricky as we (as humans) tend to introduce bias when asking questions. The best practice approach is generating open-ended questions in an attempt to better understand their workflow, pain points, existing solutions, etc.

After interviews are complete, I conduct a brainstorming session to identify what the users needed, what level of detail to include, how the users would access the information, etc. This helps me set requirements for the UI/UX of the product.

Interviewers are color coordinated by their position. In this example, purple are admin users, red are technicians, green are nurses, and blue are providers.

User Flow Diagram/Site Map

Once the requirements are defined, I begin the design process of the product. I created user flow diagrams and a site map in MIRO.

Prototype

Using Figma, I created a prototype of the EMR system.

Obtaining Feedbacks

Presenting to internal and external stakeholders is a vital step of the design process. Ensuring stakeholders that all feedback is important, especially the negative. Being a data analyst, a primary key for a successful product is practicing an agile mythology. Having multiple MVP (minimum viable products) to present along the design process.

I find breaking feedbacks into sections the most helpful to address issues, concerns, comments, and questions.

Product Launch

Setting achieving deliverables that align with developers and stakeholders.

Lesson Learned

Reflecting on my design process and the product helps me be a better collaborator and designer. Taking notes of, "what if, my wonder, I like" thoughts are how I evaluate my work.
